Adding Texture with Mini Blinds
When people
think of blinds the image that most often comes
to mind is the tangled cord coming from the
plastic slatted Venetian blind. Not only are
these blinds always tangled and crooked, they
are almost impossible to keep clean.
Modern interior design almost never uses
blinds with plastic slats anymore. Nowadays they
get a minimalist effect through the use of
anodized aluminum and silver slats. The Venetian
blinds of today come in a variety of styles,
colors, and textures. New color and design
options have been created by manufacturers
through various techniques including painting,
coating, and anodizing the slats. You no longer
have the limited choice between black and a
selection of neutral beige tones. Using these
tones in a room just makes it boring and
impersonal, unless you are willing to add other
interesting effects in the room such as special
bulbs, dimmers, and other specialized lighting
treatments.
Choosing the right blinds for your room is
probably a much better option than spending a
lot of money of specialized light treatments. If
you are trying to create the retro look of the
60s and 70s try pairing some of the new bright
colored blinds with other nostalgic memorabilia
from the time. If you are looking for glamour
and glitz why not use some of the new metallic
colors such as bronze, gold, or silver? A room
with a lot of rich wood tones with look so much
better with rich wine and burgundy colors than
it would with the standard black or white. Those
who prefer to design with earth tones will love
the olive and brown toned blinds. Use celadon or
cherry red to give an industrial space an
updated appearance.
Those who love to experiment but are not
comfortable with bold colors might like to look
at the various textures available for blinds
these days. Those with rooms that get their
inspiration from Asia or the bohemian lifestyle
may like the look of wood slats. Rich office
spaces can be pulled together with leather
covered slats. Those who are going with a retro
look might appreciate the old style of plastic
slats.
Another outdated style of blind is the floor
length vertical blind. These blinds are
outdated, impersonal, and incredibly
unfashionable. Get rid of these blinds as soon
as possible, even if you have not saved up
enough money yet to get vertical blinds. Cover
your windows with sheer curtains or drapes in
the meantime. While mini blinds are still
effective at filtering out sunlight on small
windows they are very outdated as well. If you
want to use mini blind without creating an old
fashioned look try using some of the new vibrant
colors that are available.
These days it is also possible to find Venetian
blinds with hand painted art. These blinds are
the ultimate in style, forming a picture with
the slats when they are shut. Your best bet for
finding these blinds in independent shops and
Chinatowns. Adding these to any room gives it
great surprise element and accent piece.
Changing your blinds using these tips can really
help bring your home to life.
